Where can I obtain legal assistance regarding noncompliance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?
DIRECT Center for Independence will give technical assistance and assist in problem solving issues relating to the ADA, The Arizona Attorney General (520) 628-6504, accepts and investigates formal complaints regarding the ADA.
If I receive Social Security Disability or SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is it possible for me to go back to work part time, or even full time?
DIRECT offers Benefit Planning Assistance and Outreach to Tucson and the five counties of Southeastern Arizona (Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenly). What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology refers to devices whose main function is to help individuals with disabilities in various aspects of daily life, including but not limited to social, vocational, educational and other activities. As you see products labeled high tech (or digital, computerized, etc.), also consider low-tech products that may meet your needs better, are less expensive, more durable and easier to use. You can probably modify some “off the shelf” items for little or no extra cost.
Does The Fair Housing Act apply to me?
The Fair Housing Amendments Act (FHAA) of 1988 amended Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, prohibiting discrimination in the rental of dwellings on the basis of race, sex, religion, handicap, familial status or national origin. The FHAA also makes it unlawful for a landlord or housing provider to refuse to make reasonable accommodations in his or her rules, policies, services or practice, when these accommodations are needed to allow equal opportunities for persons with disabilities to use and enjoy housing programs or facilities. The act also safeguards against unfair practices in commercial sales and lending.regulates all complexes that were ready or being made ready for occupancy after March 13, 1991. In addition to prohibited actions and reasonable accommodations, the act mandates seven technical requirements for all units on ground floors in non elevator buildings and all units in elevator buildings as follows
