IMPACT Center for Independent Living: Your Resource for Independent Living Philosophy and History
Welcome to Impact's internet site. IMPACT is one of twenty-two Centers for Independent Living (CILs) in Illinois. Nation-wide there are approximately four hundred CILs. CILs are organizations that are both directed and managed by people with disabilities. IMPACT employs twenty-one staff members, and twelve of us have significant disabilities. Staff with disabilities are primarily providers of peer support, community advocacy, disability awareness, and technical assistance. Additionally, four staff who do not have disabilities are parents of young children with disabilities. The fact that staff and board members have experienced prejudice, stigma, exclusion, and discrimination in their personal lives is a strong component of what drives and motivates IMPACT and other CILs.

Welcome to the NCSA Mosaic Access Page, a resource for those interested in how people with disabilities can use the internet and the World Wide Web. Development of this page is under the Mosaic Access Project with support from the National Science Foundation. The short term goals of this project are to identify some of the major barriers people with disabilities encounter using NCSA Mosaic. Where feasible, solutions will be designed and implemented. The long term goals involve issues of access to the internet, the World Wide Web and Multimedia browsers in general. Ongoing retrofit solutions will be developed for Mosaic and barriers inherent to the Web architecture will be identified. Recommendations will be made to appropriate standards groups.
