The Community Outreach Program serves to promote the ideals of Independent Living and empower the residents of Southern Arizona with disabilities. This is accomplished by providing the appropriate education and training thereby allowing the individual to make informed choices as to the present and their future.

Training seminars include the services offered at DIRECT Center For Independence and how one goes about accessing these services. Also included are sessions covering the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA was signed into law on July 26, 1990 by President George Bush, Sr., and prohibits discrimination based on one’s disability in most noteably Employment, services and programs offered by State and Local Government, Public Accommodations, and Telecommunications. The Fair Housing Act which prohibits discrimination based on disability in the renting, leasing, or purchasing a housing unit. This Act not only applies to housing providers, but mortgage lenders as well.
