DIRECT manages a PA referral list to ease the burden of a lengthy PA search for the consumer. Most of the PA's on the list are willing to work for $10.00 an hour, however, a few with a great deal of experience will expect a higher salary. Occasionally, the list does have individuals seeking work as live-in PA's. At times, consumers are unable to pay for PA services. In these situations DIRECT is knowledgeable of alternative resources.

DIRECT screens PA list applicants extensively. All applicants must supply DIRECT with three written references. After the references have been checked, all applicants must undergo an hour long interview. Upon successful completion of the interview, applicants are placed on the PA list.

DIRECT offers a class to consumers to teach them to manage PA care at an optimal level. Consumer classes cover three topics. The first topic is entitled How to Interview. This subject gives consumers the necessary skills to successfully screen PA applicants to meet their individual needs. At the end of the lecture, we invite consumers to roll-play in mock interview sessions. Where, When and How to Interview is the second lesson being offered at DIRECT. We stress consumer safety during this session. The final class is, How to Keep your PA Safe and Happy. This section covers the basics of good management techniques. Consumers are encouraged to sign up for all three classes.
